Nutrition in Sebastopol, CA
Nutrition is the science of food, the nutrients in foods and how the body uses those nutrients. It includes the process of ingestion, digestion, absorption, metabolism, transport, storage and excretion of those nutrients. It also includes the environmental, psychological and behavioral aspects of food and eating. The six classes of nutrients include: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water.

Dr. Bridget’s Nutritional Philosophy
Food can be our best medicine. Healthy nutrition isn’t just about receiving the right combination of macro and micronutrients. It is also about finding the foods that are most digestible and absorbable for your unique biology, and the right flavors and temperatures for your individual constitution.
Food is also very emotional. Having a sense of enjoyment in our food is essential to feeling nourished and can greatly influence one’s sense of well-being. At the same time, having discernment in our diets can be crucial to addressing health conditions and for maintaining good health.
When people are habituated into a diet of over-processed and chemically altered foods, this can lead to a distorted sense of what foods are truly healthy, resulting in addictive patterns around food, malnourishment, weight issues, and a host of chronic illnesses. On the other hand, when people are overly discerning about their diets, this can lead to excessive restriction, anxiety about obtaining healthy foods, and social isolation, all of which can lead to undernourishment and undue emotional distress. Either extreme can have negative health consequences.
Dr. Bridget’s philosophy is to help each person find the right balance. Drawing from Western nutritional science and Ayurvedic medicine, Dr. Bridget provides nutritional recommendations based on each individual’s unique health picture. She incorporates diagnostic tools such as micronutrient assessment, digestive analysis, and food sensitivity testing when appropriate. She addresses digestive dysfunction, gut flora issues, emotional eating, and food addictions, all of which can influence one’s ability to make healthy choices. Dr. Bridget will work with you to develop eating habits that not only maximize your health, but also that enhance your enjoyment of food.
